ABOUT EVANN
Evann Carter (she/her) is a choir director, music educator, and soprano based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most recently, she served as Choir Director for Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School and Miles River Middle School in Hamilton, MA, where she directed six vocal ensembles across grades 6–12 and taught general music. She previously taught at Garfield Middle School in Revere, Massachusetts, where she established the school's middle school choir program.
A lifelong choral musician, Evann has sung in choirs for over twenty years and has performed in renowned venues including Lincoln Center, Westminster Abbey, St. Peter’s Cathedral in Dublin, Salzburg Cathedral, and St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. While at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), she studied voice with Erica Davis and performed with the advanced ensemble Northridge Singers under the direction of Paul Smith. In Massachusetts, she performed for three seasons with the Back Bay Chorale under the direction of Steve Spinelli.
Evann graduated summa cum laude from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and earned her Master of Music Education from Boston University. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to music education leadership and advocacy. As an undergraduate, she served as a leader in her collegiate National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Collegiate Chapter, which was recognized by the California Music Educators Association as Chapter of the Year for three consecutive years. She has also supported arts nonprofit organizations through internships focused on arts access and education, including Education Through Music–Los Angeles and the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts.
Across both her teaching and performing work, Evann is passionate about building inclusive, student-centered music programs that prioritize growth and community. She believes deeply in the power of singing together and is committed to helping students develop empathy and a lifelong relationship with music.
